OH MY GOD.
I've known my cousin julia since i was born.
she's also born in 1994.
She's considered my first best friend.
back when we were kids, we were INSEPARABLE.
then again, back when we were kids, we were never part of the same "group" in school.
she was always in the popular crowd, the bad kids. me? i was in the "wierd" ppl group. i guess i still am? ._.
ANYWAY. the reason i wrote this is because, as we grew up we both changed a lot.
we arnt as close as we used to be. I miss the old her.
She's becoming worse and worse. She keeps changing herself to be in the Popular group.
I mean , seriously, FUCK THE POPULAR GROUP. -______-
today, she told me on aim that her friends were trying to change her.
I got really pissed. -_-
and then she tells me she wants to start smoking. ITS MY WORST NIGHTMARE. D:

Your cousin, no offense is stupid. She's not informed enough about what cigarettes do to you.
Just a few puffs? Does she know the nicotine will stay in her brain for at least 2 days and in those 2 days, she'll crave for more and it just won't stop? Did you tell her about yellow teeth (even brown cause of the tar) and the fingers and that'll she'll stink to high heaven?
Her uncle is different because that's how the first generation of Asian people are! They got some sort of knowledge that makes them way smarter then us and it's keeping them alive. But you know, we 2nd generation folk are ignorant. All we wanna do is "fit in". Pshaw! What's so good about it?! No matter where you go, you'll be scrutinized by some other group of people. No matter what clique and whatnot, outsiders will criticize you; it's all the same! PRESENT DAY PEOPLE ARE MEAN MORONS.

like i get that she wants to fit in and shit since that's just a normal teenage insecurity, but she has NO idea what the consequences of her actions are. it doesnt matter if she just wants to try a few puffs. that leads to the downward spiral of addiction and u know what, i dont think people will love her as much when shes disgusting.
the stupid uncle whos smoking is only smoking because that generation ISNT as informed as ours and when he started smoking, he prbly didn't know what the consequences of him smoking would be. i'm pretty sure he would rethink smoking if his smoking is a reason why his niece is contemplating it.

also, nana, you arent forceful at all about what u want your cousin to do. if she wants to fit in and change to be "popular" that just means that either is is starved for attention or she really has opinion on anything. when ur dealing with someone like that u have to be forceful in order for your cousin to realize that there IS someone who likes her as she is and that she doesnt have to conform to anything, ruining herself on the way.
the fact that u use sweet words like "my poor baby" and using stupidly cute emoticons when having a serious conversation to try to salvage the situation isnt working if all she says back is "aww. i love u too" and "lol". this just makes it seem like even though she is contemplating smoking, its ok because people are just gonna forgive me at the end.
also, if her friends are trying to change her into something she isnt then tell her that they arent worth being her friend. someone who doesnt even look out for their own friend's behavior and action when he/she is thinking about self-harming actions needs to step back and not be so stupid. i bet if her friends even know about her feelings they probably would just say something mindless like "its her choice" and "i have nothing to do with it if she really wants to do it" these are what u call dipshits like the people on facebook who only add you because they want more friends to show to the world. if your cousin defends or says that "even though they arent doing anything they are still my friends" she definitely needs a lesson on reality.
